The seventy-third edition of the Frankfurt Book Fair (Frankfurter Buchmesse), the largest book fair all over the world, will physically take place this year from 20 to 24 October 2021, but under strict hygienic conditions in view of the current situation surrounding the coronavirus pandemic. This year's main host country is Canada. The Czech Republic will not be absent from the fair.

You can visit the national stand of the Czech Republic in Hall 4.0, stand number B82. This year we will also present visitors with a selection of books published in 2020 and 2019. There will be prose, children's and young adult literature, comics, drama and translations of books by Czech authors into German from 2018.

The Frankfurt Book Fair will be complemented by the traditional BOOKFEST City festival, which will fill the streets of Frankfurt am Main for five days with intimate literary and cultural events; many events will also take place online or hybrid.

2020

The seventy-second edition of the Frankfurt Book Fair (Frankfurter Buchmesse), which is the most important European book event of the autumn, took place from 14 to 18 October 2020. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the fair took on a digital form and so all of the national presentations, including co-exhibitors, were online.

The Frankfurt Book Fair was complemented by the BOOKFEST City festival, which filled the streets of Frankfurt with smaller literary and cultural events for five days, and many events also took place online. Among the 80 events, Alena Mornštajnová made her first appearance in front of German audiences on October 16, with her novel Hana translated into German (published by Wieser, 2020, translated by Raija Hauck). She was joined virtually by Martin Krafl, the programme coordinator from the Moravian Library in Brno. From the German side, Mirko Schwanitz hosted the discussion.

The Czech national presentation is provided by the Moravian Library in Brno on behalf of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic.
